Sun Protection: the Unparalleled Promise of the Riemann P20

3 min read

In 1979, Claus Riemann wanted to help a friend with sensitive skin stay protected while in Africa. The solution he developed was P20, which has been protecting people from the sun for more than decades. Claus Riemann's spirit of personal devotion and sincere scientific effort have guided the brand to this day.

Riemann P20

Since 1979, when the P20 was created, it has been protecting people all over the world from the sun. To this day, it remains true to its promise to offer uncompromising protection, because you know and understand how crucial it is to be protected from the sun - whether you're on vacation, doing outdoor activities, taking part in a marathon or enjoying time with your children, providing the best protection from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation - that won't let you down.

Riemann P20 is a sunscreen brand that meets the highest standards when it comes to product performance, including: durability, water resistance and a high level of broad-spectrum UVB and UVA protection.

At the same time, the formulas have been improved to be hypoallergenic, AllergyCertified and to be less harmful to the environment, excluding UV filters that are known to cause a threat to it. When developing and optimizing the products, emphasis was placed on sensory feel, as it is well known that a light, fast-absorbing texture is essential for consumers to want to use a sun protection product every day - all year round.

The synthesis of all this is that the uniqueness of P20 is the combination of Riemann P20 high-performance sunscreen, consideration for the skin and the environment, and unique formulations that ensure the best sensory experience to ensure that there is sun protection in all the situations that life brings.

Developing a brand that has several recognized certifications in a range of sun care products is really something unique and a kind of work of art. The various certifications each set such strict specific requirements that they easily end up opposing each other. For example, there are many UV filters on the market that are approved, but which are forbidden if you want to be AllergyCertified and EcoSun Pass approved, but both Riemann P20 Sensitive and Riemann P20 Kids have managed to make all this a reality.

AllergyCertified

AllergyCertified is the guarantee that there are no known allergens or preservatives that cause allergies, and that each ingredient has been evaluated by a toxicologist and is 100% fragrance-free.

BASF

Based on a sense of environmental responsibility and sensitivity to the wishes of consumers, BASF has introduced a methodology for assessing the environmental impact of sunscreen formulations.

Respecting Ocean Life

The new formulations of P20 Original have been revised, which means that they do not contain octocrylene or homosalate. Octocrylene is a widely used ingredient in sunscreens as it provides effective UV protection against the sun, but at the same time this ingredient is known to pose a threat to the ocean environment. To minimize the impact on the environment as much as possible and still offer the best sun protection, the change was made to provide a safer product and minimize the environmental impact. Octocrylene is also one of the ingredients that has been banned in sunscreens that can be used in Hawaii.

Vegan

Certification with the Vegan mark means that the products are free from ingredients of animal origin or derived from animals, so they can protect your skin from the sun's UV rays and have not been tested on animals.

Boots Star

The Boots Star system gives sunscreens 3-5 stars and thus indicates the UVA protection capacity of the sunscreen. The Boots system does not directly measure the protection power in the UVA spectrum, like FP-UVA, but only measures whether the sunscreen protects evenly across the entire spectrum of solar UV radiation. Five stars in the Boots system means that the UVA protection reaches more than 90% of the measured UVB protection (not the UVB protection indicated on the label).

UVA

The UVA circle indicates that a sunscreen contains 1/3 UVB protection relative to UVA protection. This means that a product with SPF 30 must have at least a UVA SPF of 10. In the EU, all sunscreen products marketed must comply with this legal requirement and must display the UVA circle.

PA +

The Asian system for assessing UVA protection was developed by the Japanese, who began by measuring PPD (Persistent Pigment Darkening) and introduced the PA+ system (UVA protection index). This measurement method is carried out on human skin and is very similar to measuring SPF in vivo.

Fragrance Free

All products have been dermatologically tested to guarantee compatibility with the skin and to ensure a safe experience when using the Riemann P20 range.

All Riemann P20 products are formulated without any fragrances in order to minimize the risk of developing allergies when using them.
