Curiosities:

Do you know that since November the 6 of 2006, liquids, gels and aerosols are only allowed in hand baggage in small quantities (maximum 100ml per item) and only if they are properly packaged. These rules are applied to all passengers departing or transiting by plane, at EU airports. These new rules include liquids such as water and other beverages, gels, pastes, lotions and the contents of aerosol cans. The products of personal hygiene such as tooth paste, shaving cream, hair gel, liquid lipstick and creams are also covered.

These are the rules relating to liquids in your hand luggage:

  • You can only carry on board the aircraft, liquids and gels in containers that do not have a capacity exceeding 100 milliliters.
  • These containers have to be transported in transparent plastic bags.
  • There is a limit of one transparent plastic bag per person.
  • The volume of the clear plastic bag can not exceed 1 liter.
  • The transparent plastic bag must be re-sealed.

There are two exceptions to this basic rule:

  • Food to feed baby during the flight
  • Medications needed during the flight

Why there’s a limitation to use net?

Extensive research on the subject shows that large amounts of liquid explosives are needed to cause an explosion. For this reason, passengers can no longer carry on large amounts of liquids in hand luggage.
Liquids and gels that are sold at the airports are subject to extra checks, and liquids and gels brought from home may only board in small quantities.
What if you shop after passport control in the duty free shops? You can still do your shopping, including duty free shops at European airports after passport control and on flights of European airlines. Liquids and gels that you buy after ticket or passport control and on board will be packed and sealed in the shop or on board as the required form. This seal is valid for one day. If you have to change planes, you can not break the seal until you reach your final destination.
