Dilated Pores and Oiliness... How to Purify My Skin?

11 March 2022

Dilated pores and shine bring displeasure and imperfections to the face. Think you've tried everything to get rid of them?

Enlarged pores and oily skin are the typical manifestation of an imbalance that leads to excessive sebum production and imperfections. Whether they are hormonal, environmental or physiological causes, fortunately, there are simple solutions to put an end to the recurring oiliness that makes us so uncomfortable. Yes, we love all skin types here, and we'll prove it to you!

What are the causes of enlarged pores and oily skin?

To understand why our skin begins to glow and our pores dilate generously, we first have to address the mechanisms of sebum production.

The epidermis is made up of tiny holes that allow it to breathe, to release transpiration and impurities, and to let sebum, a substance that forms a thin film on the skin's surface, pass through. How is sebum useful, besides the little tricks it plays on us before our period or after a nice packet of cookies? Let's not be unkind, sebum is indeed useful:

  • It allows the skin to maintain its water reserves. That is why the protective film of the epidermis is composed of both water and fat.
  • It is a natural barrier against dryness and external attacks (dust, pollution, wind, sun...).

When everything goes according to plan, the hydrolipid film in the epidermis takes on its protective role. So-called "normal" skin is possibly a little oilier in the "T" zone (the mid-face area). However, any factors can lead to excessive sebum production in the sebaceous glands.

This is where the imbalance happens and imperfections set in. This can be due to hormonal causes, adolescent disorders, an unbalanced diet, excessive stress, tobacco or pollution... Excess sebum production is also influenced by taking hormonal contraceptives.

Enlarged pores and an oily face: what to do?

Since it is not possible to run away from our skin, we will have to face the problem. Here's to us, oily face!

Make-up and cleanse

Gentle, light formulas are preferred, adapted to skin with excess oil.

Excess sebum production leads to sensitization of the skin, which reacts excessively to aggressions. It is therefore preferable to use a micellar water adapted to the needs of oily and sensitive skin, such as our Purifying Micellar Water, based on copper and zinc. If you prefer a rinse-off product, try the Purifying Cleansing Gel.

Purify

From cleansing, we move on to a clay mask, the Purifying Express Mask. Clay is a natural solution against enlarged pores that, for thousands of years has proven, decrease the size of pores and gently purify the skin.

Act

Using a Pure Active can help restore balance to your skin. Try Zinc Gluconate 3% Pure Active, to regulate excess sebum and purify the skin.

Hydrate

In addition to these essential steps, don't forget to moisturize your skin with a non-comedogenic (i.e. no fatty oils like coconut oil and shea butter) and mattifying moisturizer (ideally enriched with copper or zinc). We recommend the Matifying Gel, a light and fresh solution that keeps your skin matified for 8 hours!
