Dark spots and hyperpigmentations: institut esthederm answer

5 min read

Please imagine a glacier. These huge masses of ice that we all meet and know exist but we only see a tiny fraction of them above mean sea level.

They are like spots: a small visible part of the beginning of photoaging mainly related to cumulative and irregular sun exposure and associated with more intense sun damage in the deeper layers of the skin.

It is essential to have beauty routines that respond quickly and lastingly to the problem that are dark spots since it is not always easy to know their origins or even their causes.

So, today, we are going to show you and let you know what answers the Institut Esthederm has to act on different types of hyperpigmentation.

But before we start this presentation and sharing let's put the concepts related to this theme into context.

The natural pigment that gives our skin its color is melanin which is produced by melanocytes to protect the skin from UV rays and which is at the origin of tanning our natural protection against the ultraviolet rays emitted by the sun.

Pigment changes are related to the malfunction of melanin which causes hyperpigmentation (dark spots) or depigmentation (lighter spots) on the skin. This last one is usually related to a genetic component such as vitiligo or albinism that requires medical attention.

There are several types of spots:

  • Spots or lentigines related to sun exposure and age
Excessive sun exposure (too intense or too long) over time results in the excessive production of melanin which translates into spots or “lentigos” (small, round and flat spots of variable size).
Also the risk of hyperpigmentation increases with cell aging and generally affects the areas most exposed to the sun (face, neck, hands, etc.).
Sun and age are the main causes of pigment spots. This phenomenon is called "solar lentigo" or "senile lentigo".
Lentigo affects 90% of people over 50 years old and all skin types are affected.
  • Melasma or “pregnancy cloth” related to hormonal changes and oral contraceptives
In women hormonal changes can lead to the appearance of a brownish mask on the face called “melasma” or “pregnancy cloth.” These are spots located on the upper part of the face that are accentuated in the summer.
This pigmentation is very common and appears suddenly but it subsides or disappears completely after the hormones return to normal.
  • Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)
Especially in darker skinned phototypes it is the result of localized inflammation such as acne, scars and insect bites. It is independent of age.
  • Iatrogenic Hyperpigmentation
Certain plants, perfumes or medicines can trigger the appearance of dark spots resulting from a photosensitization reaction (phototoxicity).
  • Ephelides (or freckles)

What can't be missing from your daily routine?

The best solution is to apply sunscreen daily in addition to adopting a responsible behavior in the sun.

  • Avoid the sun in the most intense hours when the rays are more dangerous especially between 10 am and 3 pm.
  • Choose your sunscreen carefully and conscientiously respecting your skin phototype. Ask your Dermatologist or Pharmacist for help.
  • To prepare and increase your skin's tolerance to the sun take food supplements (capsules, tablets) rich in antioxidants in advance and/or use topical care (cream, lotion).

What are the Institut Esthederm's responses to Dark spots and Hyperpigmentations?

In general we can say that we have at Institut Esthederm two beauty routines able to treat dark spots: ESTHE-WHITE correction range and INTENSIVE VITAMINE C range.

In normal situations when looking for a depigmenting beauty routine to unify pigmentation or replace lost luminosity the brand usually recommends ESTHE-WHITE routine.

When it comes to a major need where those who approach us are looking for quick, visible and lasting answers to depigmenting and unifying treatment then we recommend the INTENSIVE VITAMINE C range.

As you already know Institut Esthederm's INTENSIVE range uses 7 highly concentrated differentiating molecules although ideally concentrated which represent a solution as effective as Aesthetic Medicine but in a much less invasive way.

This is the main reason that makes it the ideal range to extend and complement the results achieved with some aesthetic procedures commonly performed today.

Since it is a range with higher molecular concentrations we recommend these beauty routines in isolation and for only 2 months as the molecular concentration used was studied to respond in just 2 months of treatment twice a day.

So let's get to know the respective ranges mentioned above for the treatment of Blemishes and Hyperpigmentations at the Institut Esthederm:

ESTHE-WHITE

The treatment to act on dark spots, moisturizing and rejuvenating that Institut Esthederm offers for all skin types of all ages with irregular pigmentation, hyperpigmentation, irregular and dull complexion, lack of luminosity and transparency.

The ESTHE-WHITE range is made up of 5 differentiating beauty cares and they all have 2 distinct targets: melanin and epidermis.

Directly related to melanin we have a Patent Hipopigmentalin that brings together three ingredients capable of reducing melanin production and correcting installed pigmentation. Therefore we are talking about acting in deeper layers of the skin and acting more on the surface respectively.

Focus on epidermis this range uses a marine polysaccharide (marine EPS) that stimulates epidermal renewal restoring the skin's luminosity and transparency.

esthe-white mousse de limpeza

Face & Neck & Cleavage

Daily hygiene care for hyperpigmented, dull and lack of luminosity skin.

Intensive gel-creme antirrugas e antimanchas com vitamina c

INTENSIVE VITAMINE C GEL-CRÈME

Face & Neck & Cleavage

Depigmenting care with action on wrinkles that improves skin radiance and evens out the complexion. It uses a vitamin C precursor, 2% Ascorbyl Glucoside, which is eco-responsible (obtained by biotechnology), has good stability (does not oxidize in the formula) and absorbs in depth (thanks to its low molecular weight) making it our preferencial choice.

An excellent complement to a beauty routine at home after cosmetic procedures such as lasers or peelings.

Its gel-cream texture makes it usable for all skin types. It has fragrance and can be used all year round.

Sometimes we are asked for a serum to complement it with INTENSIVE VITAMINE C gel-cream and in these cases we recommend INTENSIVE VITAMINE E².

Why use vitamin E?

• Potentiates the action of the sunscreen

• Prevents and reduces wrinkles

• Great moisturizer

• Improves healing due to its regenerative role

• Promotes skin elasticity and firmness

• Protects against free radicals by its antioxidant action

• Soothes the most sensitive skin due to its anti-inflammatory properties

Finally we present you the most important step in a successful depigmenting treatment: sun protection.

Whether with ESTHE-WHITE beauty routine or with Intensive Vitamine C Gel-Crème we must always end up with sun protection to ensures maximum protection against the aggravation of spots due to sun exposure.

The sun care of Institut Esthederm that best suits the two routines mentioned above is PHOTO REVERSE. This sun protection exists in a colorless and colored version and is the best seller of the brand's sun care.

On its formula base we find a patent (Photo Reverse) that blocks the two pathways of skin pigmentation: direct (reducing the activity of melanocytes) and indirect (reducing the interaction between melanocytes and keratinocytes).

This inhibition that happens thanks to the ingredients that are part of the Patent Photo Reverse formula make these two sun care preventive and corrective of hyperpigmentation induced by UV radiation, so both can replace the depigmenting daily cream of any beauty routine used for this purpose.

Solaire photo reverse

PHOTO REVERSE (TEINTÉ)

Face & Neck

Sun care that protects and depigment uniforming skin pigmentation.

It inhibits, as mentioned above, the two skin pigmentation pathways and protects and enhances its natural defenses improving its resistance to external aggressions and radiation. Extremely complete 360º protection: UV, visible and IR.

It contains maximum photoprotection, ie an SPF 50+.

No fragrance and is non-comedogenic and water resistant.

PHOTO REVERSE TEINTÉ only differs in the presence of color (medium beige) in which its pigments end up reinforcing the protection against blue light (415nm), uniforming and giving immediate shine to the skin.
