Cradle cap

What is it?

It is a form of dermatitis Seborrheic Children, a very common disease in infants (with an 60% incidence) usually reaches 1 in 4 children.

What are the characteristics?

Cradle cap usually occurs on the scalp, but can also appear on the eyebrows, behind the ears and on the sides of the nose. It can appear in the first weeks of life and usually disappear before the child complete his first year of life. It is characterized by the appearance of oily and yellow scales and small elevations like bubbles.

What are the causes?

The cause of the cradle cap is unknown, but Pediatric Dermatology have shown some changes that are involved in its onset, namely the presence of maternal steroid hormones, triggering the overproduction of sebum, which favors the development of Candida albicans and Pytirosporum ovale that promotes aggregation of dead cells, forming scales and crusts.

The treatment steps in various levels of the Skin:

Control the sebum hypersecretion
Keratolytic action, to help remove the crusts
Emollient and regeneration of all lipids essential to the skin
Anti-oxidant action / anti-irritant.
This requires the use of appropriate products and oblige to some precautions and care:

  • COSMETIC TREATMENT

There are oils, lotions and shampoos available in adequate treatment at Sweetcare.

  • ADVICES:

- The baby should be kept clean and dry, since the milk crust become worse with perspiration
- The baby does not need to have his head covered when he goes out unless he has a cold and, in this case, he should remove the cap whenever he is on places with air-conditioned on, especially when they travel by car or other means of transportation.
- Whenever you start a cosmetic treatment, you must wait at least two weeks to see the results
- You can wash the baby's head with shampoo once a day. There is no reason not to massage the baby's head, mainly the fontanelle (fontanelle). Massages usually do not cause injury to the underlying brain tissue.
- Do not remove the scales with your fingers because this increases the risk of infection
- To prevent the accumulation of dead cells on the skin, it is correct to brush or comb baby’s hair smooth and completely.
