Azelac ru - the secret to even-toned skin!

Dark spots on the skin (hyperpigmentations) are one of the main reasons why women in particular seek dermatological advice from health professionals.

According to recent data, in Europe, 20% of women over the age of 25 are already concerned about the appearance of spots. This concern increases with age - from the age of 40, one in three women present some type of hyperpigmentation, reaching a total of 90% of women from the age of 50.

The hyperpigmentations that affect the skin can be of different types:

- Melasma: closely related to hormonal changes. It often appears in association with pregnancy (in this specific situation it is called chloasma). It can also result from contraceptive or hormone replacement medication, hormonal changes caused by thyroid dysfunction, among others.

- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentations: as the name suggests, they are caused following an inflammation. As we will see later in this article, inflammatory mediators are stimulating factors in the synthesis of melanin, which is why, after the healing of lesions with associated inflammation (such as pimples), it is common to see spots in the affected area.

- Lentigines: these are the typical aging spots. They are closely related to excessive sun exposure, appearing mostly on the areas where sun exposure is usually more intensive, such as the face, the hands or the décolleté area.

In common, in the several types of hyperpigmentations, there is an increase in the synthesis of the natural pigment responsible for our skin tone - melanin.

 

MELANIN, MELANOCYTES AND MELANOGENESIS

The spots therefore result from an accumulation of melanin, which is visible on the surface of the skin. However, its synthesis does not occur at the surface, but in the deeper layer of the epidermis, in specific cells - the melanocytes. In these cells, from an amino acid - tyrosine, and by the action of an enzyme - tyrosinase, melanin synthesis occurs. Underlying this process are several inducing factors with emphasis on UV radiation, hormonal factors, inflammation, genetic factors, among others.

The melanin synthesized in the melanocytes is then transferred to the neighboring cells - keratinocytes. These cells are in constant renewal and, as new keratinocytes are synthesized, the pre-existing ones loaded with melanin are "pushed" towards the superficial layers of the skin, making the blemish visible.

 

This process is known as melanogenesis and therefore includes 3 phases:

- Induction phase, concerns the stimulation of the whole process by the already identified factors (UV radiation, hormonal factors, inflammatory mediators...);

- Synthesis phase, which takes place inside the melanocyte and consists in the conversion of tyrosine into melanin;

- Distribution phase in which the melanin synthesized in the melanocyte is transferred to the neighboring keratinocytes and migrates to the more superficial layers of the skin.

As we have seen, the process of melanin synthesis is complex, involving several stages. Moreover, one of the biggest challenges of the Dermocosmetic Industry is to get the actives included in the formulations to effectively reach the target cells in hyperpigmentations - the melanocytes, inserted in the deepest layer of the epidermis.

Moisturizing care with photoprotection for melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentations and other types of hyperpigmentations. Suitable for all skin types and high phototypes. With high sun protection (SPF50).

Composition: azelaic acid, 4-butylresorcinol, vitamin C (ethyl ascorbic acid), tranexamic acid, diacetyl boldine, daisy extract, undecylenyl phenylalanine, growth factors (TGF-β2), sunscreens, luminous pigments.

How to use: Apply on previously cleansed skin, with a gentle massage in the morning. Renew frequently.

How to use: Apply on clean, dry skin with a gentle massage until absorbed, as needed to give the skin comfort.

How to use: Apply on clean skin, with a gentle massage until completely absorbed. Before your usual cream in the morning and evening. Shock treatment: Half ampoule in the morning, half ampoule in the evening 10 days. Maintenance treatment: 1 ampoule per week.

How to use: Place the ampoule in the roller, press the dispenser and slide it over clean, dry skin, gently and without exerting pressure, with linear movements (horizontal and then vertical). We recommend 2-3 passes per area (1: cheeks, 2: forehead, 3: nose and chin). Use 2-3 x per week, ideally at night. Then follow with the application of your usual moisturizing care or a mask. After each application, wash the head with warm water and a mild soap.
